I've joined the club/forum and am seeking a clean, original Mangusta. I can afford to buy a strong #2 car, or will settle for a #3 driver. Originality is key as I will replace any aftermarket stereo, air cleaner, headers, valve covers, etc. -- but will expect to pay accordingly less for a car in this condition.

I've sent Dennis a PM about his car and am considering one of the cars at PIM (albeit they both need about $15K in paint/body, $5K in interior re-upholstery, and $5K in mechanical updating/tune-up to be really nice).

Let me know guys as its not much fun being a member of the club without a DeTomaso to drive!

I'd like to add to my original post by asking for clarification on what I've been told are severe problems with Mangusta body flex and suspension mounting failures due to the lightweight chassis. This is obviously a concern and would steer me back to a Pantera if true.......comments?
As long as you don't race your Mangusta or drive silly fast, it does just fine. Actualy it isn't because the car is too light, but kind of big for a backbone chassis design. It was usualy smaller cars that used it like the Vallunga and the Lotus Europa. Pantera went to monocoque design and solved that potential issue. Mangustas are prettier but not as fast as Pantera. So it depends on how you want to use the car. SInce they only made 400 Mangustas and thousands of Panteras, you will spend more for the privilage of rareity.
