No, it looks like it's part of the wiring harness.

It probably went to the throttle position solenoid.

I didn't answer your question in full. The connector appears that it should go over a round plug about 1/8" in diameter. This is the female part of the connection.

Did the Pantera's come with electric chokes?? What color is the wire?

Item #1 in the pic below is most likely where that wire connected. When aftermarket carbs are installed, that solenoid is usually discarded. I couldn't find my old solenoid (buried somewhere in the garage) to post a pic and verify the type of electrical connection.

I'll have to look tonight, but I think you nailed it. It's the original carb and I saw the solenoid, but not the male connector.

I got a picture of the solenoid this morning and as you can see the rear of the solenoid is gone. I can't tell you when or why, but it's gone.

How does this work? Where does it get the signal from? Any information on this little jewel would be very helpfull.

At a tech session this Saturday one of the guys said he thought it was used for increasing the idle when the AC was activated at low speed.

Makes sense to me.

Actually it was to slow the idle when the engine temperature got too high.

That's the wire to your anti-diesel solenoid (AKA Idle Stop Solenoid). It controls the throttle opening at engine idle to prevent dieseling (Run on) after the ignition is turned off.

The solenoid is energized when the ignition switch is turned on,
causing the plunger to open the throttle to idle speed position. The
plunger length is adjustable so that the idle speed can be adjusted. When
the ignition switch is turned off, the solenoid is deenergized and the
throttle closes tightly, cutting off the air­fuel mixture.

Factory Part number for your 1971 is: D0AZ-9D856-A

On the later cars there was a vacuum/electric switch that controlled the vacuum to the advance/ retard diaphrams and was in series with the power to the solenoid that would drop out the solenoid and slow the idle down when the engine reached a certain temperature. I suspect that very few if any are still intact.
