I just received a notice that Motor Trend Classic Magazine is out of business, the December 2006 issue was the last one.

Executive Editor Matt Stone is a DeTomaso enthusiast, a former Pantera owner. He has written in the past for both POCA Profiles and Pantera International.

I wonder where he'll go next within the Motor Trend company?

That was a tough niche' to fit in. There are already several good classic car magazine out there. Matt will be fine he is a talented writer. For those of you who didn't know or need a meory jog, Matt's Pantera had the fuel filler door on the roof. I beleive it was that way when he bought it. Anyone know who is driving it now?

George,

Matt had a couple hats. He's also Executive Editor of Motor Trend.

I'll second the recommendation for Octane. It has regular columns by Jay Leno, Carol Shelby and Nick Mason (and sometimes by his wife, who is a pretty good writer in her own right). Really top-notch.

I like the Hemmings Sports and Exotics when it comes out (haven't seen one for a while, so it's probably been canned too). There are a couple of other Britich Clsaaic car mags that are OK as well. The Brits really like their classics so they have lots of good Mags.
Besides PI and POCA publications, I subscribe to Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road and Track, Automobile, Auto Restorer, AutoWeek (which I would really hate to be without) and I just started getting Car Craft. All these mags and sometimes it's still not enough! I guess I got the car bug pretty bad huh? Big Grin

Yes, the US mags are gr8. Dont know the Auto Week...will look out for it. Also the Hemmings mentioned.....I heard the main guy there died last year...I know the 'normal' one, but not the Sports & Exotics....The other two Brit mags that are up there are: "Classic & Sports Car" and "Throughbred & ClassicCars"....the brits do luv their Classiscs and Pantera's hey..but boy, when do they get a chance to drive them?....its always raining there...most of the time anyway. Here in SA we have + - 300 days of sunshine, no policing of the roads to speak of, no speed traps, and very little traffic on the roads....

Mark, I know this is Pantera territory...but jeeez my friend, wont u post some pics of your very tasty GT 40 we can see on ur avatar. What is it...built in the States? - Looks fantastic indeed. Give us the details...I ran a small, hot 302 motor so I got away with using the modded Audi transaxel which gave me no trouble at all over the years...but i have a very special ZF in the garage waiting to go into my 'Ultimate' Pantera coming up soon.... i am very interested in your GT40, I luv them and was luxcky enough to drive an orginal one here yrears ahgo...awesome...and there are at least 4 companies here in johannesburg building very nice GT 40 recreations as well as the Noble's and the Superformance Daytona coupe in Port Eliabeth which are absolutely increidble 'in the flesh' and to drive....i owned and drove a GT40 as a daily driver (A/C installed of course)for over 6 years,- took it to germany with me for the two years i worked there, brought it back to SA and last year sold it to a kid here who told me later he doubled his money paid to me by taking it to England and selling it there....The dude building my Pantera GRP4 has built 33x GT40's over the years, sold all over the world....he's the one building me the Nomex composite chassis (no metal, no welding, no rust, no metal-fatique)for my Pantera fitted with carbon-fiber body...target weight 1850lbs. The Nomex chassis is +- 200lbs lighter than the metal space-frames he built for the GT40's...
To see/read more about this and a mid-engined Lotus 7 prototype just finished, plus my new fun toy; a '37 Jaguar 'SS' 2-door coupe (the factory didnt make a 2-door, so we welded up the rear doors, cut out 10 inches out back, extended the bonnet (hood) to accomodate the V12 etc.)- its fitted with all Jag XJS V12 running gear, plus other cars like; Jag C-Type, D-Type and Jag-engined replica of the famous 50's Le Mans winner Talbot Lago. Also short video/audio clip of my Pantera having its Weber IDA's tuned with 180 degree exh. Nice sound.
