Hi All,

I have a new 1972 Pantera project car #2695. It is a 20 year old father/son project that stalled. The car is completely disassembled. It came with a set of L bumpers and thus I assumed that is was an L car especially since it has the cutouts in the body for the big bumpers mounts. I was perplexed that holes in the body for small 71/72 bumpers had been welded over and dismissed them as a change done at the factory. I am now aware that the first L car was #4269, and I am now surmising that someone maybe felt left behind and switched from small bumpers to L bumpers. Below is a pic of two of the bumper mounts that came with the car, perhaps from a car much later than 1972. Does anyone recognize these bumper mounts? Are for the front or rear, and what year?

Those are the shock units for the rear bumper.

2511 was originally a chrome bumper car, but had the later impact bumpers installed when purchased by me. An old timer owner once told me that when the newer model Pantera arrived some owners of the earlier cars did not want to be driving the "old" version and converted to the L model bumpers.

Of course many owners now remove the later bumpers in favor of the small chrome versions.

Just another example of adding your personal touches to suit yourself.

Sold by Dennis Quella, about $100.

Called air dam early GTS (no holes),available in fiberglass or a more flexible ABS plastic version.

The spoiler is completely flat and I've always installed mine with sheet metal screws, although small nuts and bolts are shipped with the spoiler. Dennis will advise filling the small gaps between the spoiler and the body with black silicone, however I omit that step and find the inevitable replacement made much easier without having to deal with removing the old silicone.

When installed correctly, that is high enough so it doesn't scrape on everything in front of it, I seem to get 3 to 5 years of life out of the ABS versions. Eventually the occasional curb and driveway contacts inflict enough flex to create damage and replacement.

It is probably the most subtle spoiler offered by the vendors, is effective to keep the front end down at speed, affordable and relatively easy to install.
