I hope Jack doesn't mind me quoting him:
FWIW, Joe- you do know that converting an early dash to a late involves more
than just the fiberglas panel. The console is different where it intersects
the dash, and the heater/AC box is quite different. So if you get the new dash
mounted (the late dash/early console misalignment isn't too bad, I'm told), the
defroster vents don't align, and the heater controls are changed as well
since the lower vent duct is different. If you find a late dash, try to get the
late heater box at least- the AC evaporator and heater core inside the box are
interchangeable but the differing air valves inside the box itself means at
least the top section of the box itself must be changed. I found this out when I
blew an AC evaporator & bought a '74 assembly, then scavenged it for my '72
with an early dash. Your best source for everything you need might be a vendor
that is parting a wreck. If you have the black Illustrated Parts & Accessories
List from 1985, that gives views of the four different heater boxes possible
on pg 37. Oh yeah- I sold the remains to someone else years ago- sorry. Good
luck- J DeRyke
