Just a warning about a BRG Pantera on eBay:

http://r0034.com/cgiebaycomebaymotorswseBayISAPIdllViewItemitem4625069903.htm

Does anyone know how to report a scam to eBay? I would, but I don't know how. I made an honest bid on that car (whose buy-me-now price is $5800) and got shot down with a "User Is Not A Serious Buyer". Shortly thereafter, the location of the item went from Avon, Connecticut to Narrowsburg, New York. At the same time, it went from an open bid to "This listing is restricted to pre-approved bidders or buyers only". I know something rotten when I smell it.....

This is a scam on a scale not seen before... When I went to the item it automatically redirected me to My eBay login page.

Beware, it is l;ikely a ficticious login so someone can get your eBay login and hijack your account DO NOT RE-LOGIN.

What happens is that someone steals the pictures and text from the original auction, copy and paste.
They list it at an unrealistically low price, but not so low as to draw undue attention.
In order to report it to ebay you must have the auction number from the legitimate seller from the first time it appeared.
If you are not the seller, you cannot claim that someone has stolen the pictures and the text from you.
Sometimes ebay pulls them sometimes they don't.
If you feel that it is a fraud. Don't bid on it.
Email the seller that you wish to look at the car in person. Inform them that if you like it you will buy it on the spot for the buy it now.
Find the location of the town on the map.
Tell the seller that you live ten minutes away and you want to see it as soon as possible and that you have cash.
Then see what response you get.
Oh, ask them for the complete serial number of the car and the license plate number and state where registered.
Make arangements to see it. See what happens.
Well it's a real town on the NY-PA border. About 2 hours from me. The car looks for real.
The seller has no red flags.
It has no license plates that I can see. It could be some type of a reposession. The seller could be the town Marshall and wants to turn it over fast. It could be a mechanics lien. It could be a divorce liquidation.
It certainly is worth more then the buy it now price.
A controvesial 72? just "sold" on ebay for $45,000 in a condition like this.
The only person who is going to know for sure is the guy who goes to look at it and buys it.
It's a sure bet that it has a story to it.
This car is actually for sale through the company that hosts this forum. Check it out.....

Man, I really hate these jerkoffs who try this scam on a daily basis.

Buyer beware, as usual.

PANTERADOUG. I strongly dis-agree there is no way ANYONE is going to sell a PANTERA [OR ANYTHING ELSE] for that matter for app. 20% of it's TRUE VALUE. Especially on EBAY when you and i [and just about everyone else] know's that it would bring much more in a legitimate auction [even a short term auction]
PLEASE take no offense but i think this should be a matter of COMMON SENSE!

I think that Dave Adler will need to file the complaint with ebay. He can document it better.
There are lots of axioms here. If it is too good to be true it probably is. You can't cheat an honest man, etc.
Saved me a two hour drive for naught.

I don't think he should have too. If an add apears to be a scam, people told them it's a scam, Ebay should have a procedure for verifying it. Instead they don't try. When they get enough complaints they yank it.

On the flip side if they think you are selling too many pieces of "X" and they think you should be a dealer, or doing something that they don't like, they will yank your add and even your rights before you can say "What the hey?"

Thanks For The Warning!!! Smiler

Fortunately for me, I wasn't queried to login to eBay when I bid -- I was already logged on. I bid before the guy even had the time to change the address, pictures, etc.

I don't use PayPal (I do computer security professionally, so I know better) so even if that person did get my info, it won't do them any good as there would be no way for them to garner any account information.
It looks like I might have gone further than the rest of the group. Please beware. Attached is the email that this scam artist sent back:

Hello,
I'm glad that you're interested in my 1973 DeTomaso Pantera L.Let me tell you all about this car.
This was my brother's car, he died and left me the car in his will, I'm selling so cheap because it brings bad memories, it was registered in US.
The car is street legal and accurate. It has no scratches, no damages, no hidden defects. Kept it in a warm garage. It comes with all the documents needed for registration in US, it has a clear title and it can be registered into your name at any time.
The buy it now price is US $5,800.00. This buy now price does include the shipping and insurance fees.
Location:
I'm located in Mansfield UK and the car is here as well and so this is where the car will be shipped from ( for local buyers or for cash payments vehicle inspection / pick up is also available at anytime during 10:00AM - 20:00PM ).
Shipping:
I've done some research and the best and fastest way I can ship it is using Hemisphere Cargo Shipping Ltd which takes between 7 to 9 days to arrive at your door and costs (door to door handling and shipping insurance fee included).
The most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated with Yahoo! Finance where I have a purchase protection account for $ 10,000.00.
How will Yahoo! Finance protect your purchase ?
This service allows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between parties. Yahoo! Finance is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements.
If this is ok with you please reply with your complete name, address and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction case at Yahoo! Finance and move forward with this deal.
Thank you,
Richard
