Mark,

Where are you locating the pump inlet/outlet, a loop in the oil pan? PD pumps cannot be run in series without a pressure break, so a conventional routing off the oil filter in conjunction with the oem oil pump would not work.

Why do you feel you need a separate pump?

If it is warranted then maybe wise to move toward a wet sump external oil pump system. IMO Peterson are one of the best when it comes to oiling systems and they have an R4 external wet sump oil pump for a SBF or a vacuum pump if you want to pull a crankcase vacuum. This is not going to be a cheap exercise though, the pumps run $550 alone. http://www.petersonfluidsys.com/pump_wet.html

Why not use a thermostat sandwhich block behind the oil filter.
The sandwhich block has two ports, in & out to feed an oil cooler.
So it only sends oil to the cooler when the oil gets hot, which is when you need it.
You can also buy oil coolers that have a fan built in.
These also have a thermo switch to turn on the fan when the oil is hot.

regards,
Tony.
Dry sump is a whole level of complexity again, reservoirs, 4 stage pumps etc. Some of the usual benefits of dry sump are in allowing lowering the engine for lower CoG, but I don't think there is much to be gained in the Pantera without some serious chassis remodelling.

Adding an outlet and inlet to a 10 qrt wet sump pan would be pretty easy, in fact I understand Aviad or Armando will do it to order. You could use an electric pump like the Tilton at fixed speed with a t-stat/thermocouple so only comes on when needed or linked to a pwm controller to act progressively in maintaining oil temp.

My Ultima transmission cooler is a simple on/off switch on the dash, if I see the temp rising on track I put it on. The Tilton pump is good for 75/90 wt gear oil so should have no problem at engine oil viscoities.

On a dry sump oiling systen the weak link ...is the belt .. used on the street is a big risk. You can buy the oil pan ... a bunch of dirt cars and nascar pans are flat like the pantera 10 qt. I sold my system after setting it up and figuring out after all the expensive hardware .. it all rides on a 1/2 belt ? if it was chain or gear driven and was covered by a guard ? maybe I would use a dry sump with a pump.

My 2 cents.

Actually, 75W/90 SAE gear oil is about equivalent to 10W-40 SAE motor oil. Most people don't know there are two different viscosity grade scales for the different types of oil. Not debating that your pump capacity, jut thought I would take the opportunity for a quick tech tip.

Here is a viscosity comparison chart.
