Can anyone give me some kind of a figure as to what they think it is worth?
I have never seen another one besides it.
Thanks.
PanteraDoug,
These lighted signs are extremely hard to come by. The plastic portions of the signs are the most valuable by far and are what make the true value of the sign. If the plastic and graphics are in excellent condtion, the signs can easily be worth $1800 - $2500.
In the 1980's Cory Gehling of Collector's Choice in Wisconsin (Pantera Vendor) had some reproduction signs made and sold every one of them at $600 each.
In the late 1990's I paid $1800 for the sign I had. It was as close to new as you could get. It had been hanging in someone's living room. His dad had been a Lincoln-Mercury Dealer that sold Panteras. Not every LM dealer had a Pantera sign. They had to be purchased...LM Delaers did not automatically get a sign. Meaning there weren't as many signs produced as there were LM dealers.
Even then, when the dealers bought a sign, most were pitched in the dumpster after they were sone with them or deteriorated so badly they were no good anyway.
The 2006 No. 1 issue of POCA Profiles has an article I wrote about the signs.
Ebay is a great place to sell the sign if your friend decides to get rid of it.
Hope this information helps,
Jim
