There is some talk about this car on the DeTomaso mailing list if you are talking about the yellolw one on ebay. The concensus is....stay away. Someone stated that it is two separate cars put together into almost 1 complete. With the visible condition of the interior, engine and complete lack of tranny, I wonder how much rust the paint is hiding.
An as-is ZF will likely run about $3000. A checked-out ZF, with new synchros can run upwards of $4500. Keep in mind, these things are 30+ years old, and use steel synchros. They last a long time compared to brass synchros, but when worn, they take the matching gear cone out too, so its not like you simply replace the synchro assembly. There's a handful of expensive gears that hit the dumpster too. Secomd- there are three different models of ZF you may find. Only two will fit a Pantera, and they each use different bellhousings and internal gearing. So you really gotta watch your butt when shopping for a ZF. Cheaper than I listed are nearly always simply a collection of parts waiting for a knowlegable tech to rebuild it. Porsche tranny experience is essential. Saginaw/Muncie experience is almost worthless.

I got someone go and look at the car for me, I live in norway and there is always a broblem when you want to bay a car overeas. this somoene looked at the car and told me that the chassi looked realy good? Yes the tranny is missing and the interior was not in good chape. I looking for a good chassi to build on. If this hawe been a wreck thats been but togheter out of two cars I would like to know.I did pay up some money to close the deal, but are willing to say goodbye to those if this car is is that bad?
Please can anyone tell me anything about this car? I dont want to spend alot of money to get this car shipped to Europe if its a wreck.
Several people on the De Tomaso e-mail forum (including Lloyd Butfoy, the fellow who runs the ZF forum here on the PI page) have looked at the car and called it an absolute DISASTER! They said that it was very obviously two wrecked cars that had been cut in half and welded together, badly. Just looking at the photos, it's possible to see all sorts of mis-matches--the car is missing the gearbox but has a Dash-1 bellhousing, but as I recall it's a late car.

I haven't seen it, I'm just reporting what others have said, who HAVE seen it. Every single one said it was a car to be avoided absolutely at all costs....
