There is some type if putty/clay around the rear latch of my original 73. #1 is it original? #2 what is it? #3 Why is it there?

Not suppose to be there. That same type of putty is used inside air condition box. Maybe someone is hiding a broken latch. They tend to crack.
Tkx for that. I thought it was seam putty. Easy to remove. I 1st thought it was some rubber that deteritorited. Tkx
Someone trying to limit motion side to side? Definitely weird.
Are there any signs of lateral movement of the deck lid i.e. rub marks on the corners?
There is no movement whatsoever. Once all cleaned and re adjusted it now not only looks better it works better. Way too much grease buildup on every part.
