I'm new to the Pantera comunity, and just bought my first Pantera 3-4 weeks ago. What I was wondering about is the information I got from the seller (older gentleman in San Diego) regarding the engine. Is this list a typical selection of parts by the happy rookie, or a well thought choise by a pro?
Can this be considdered a good (as in all-round) engine?

Here is the info:
ENGINE:
stroked 351 (now 377 ci) with 6'" heavy duty rods
australian "quench" 10.5 -1 compression heads
super high lift/duration Hydraulic cam
forged Pistons
lightweight rockers, spring retainers etc in heads
porting & other modifications in heads
most of the money in engine is in the head work IT FLOWS GOOD
Edelbrock manifold with Holley 830 carb
electronic ignition, hi output coil
aluminum flywheel, Mcleod clutch
Spicer drive shafts & u joints
10 qt pan w hi volume oil pump
Cloyes true roller timing chain set
Hall headers and exhaust- 4 glass pac mufflers & chrome tips

Looks like you have all the goody's, nice stroke, good street heads. The carb is the same as I'll be going with, properly tuned that engine will drink all it can give.
How does it run, does it bog down at low rpm?
If not I would leave it alone and spend your money on a performance tune on a dyno.

Enjoy all the work thats been done!

The only thing on that list I question are the "Braided stainless ignition wires". I used to have a '69 427 Corvette that had the factory style braided/shielded spark plug wires. Then on a very dark night in a place with ZERO light I opened the hood with the engine running(why I do not remember) and I could see the little blue arcs of electricity between the wires and valve covers, you can't see it in daylight but it was there!

I would bet with the high output coil being on the list of parts you have there is some voltage loss going on. I know SS braided stuff looks good, but a good set of high performance wires would probably give you some extra spark to burn the fuel that big carb is squirting in Smiler

The car has sat for a while, and will do so until it is shipped to my home. Will be fun to see how it run. Hopefully a tune-up is all that needs to de done. I'm counting the days..
