I am looking to change my gear lube. I’ve been using the Redline 75w90ns. I’m looking for input from any of you guys that have tried both the MTL and the 75w90ns. Searching the forum it looks like some of you may have tried both but I have not found any real world comparison in the ZF.

Thanks,

Steve

Routine maintenance. Before I shell out ~$75.00 for gear lube I’m looking for feedback to see if people like the MTL better than the 75w90ns. Sorry for the confusion.

Steve, as the factory spec lube is 80W-90 - GL4, I think your choice should be 75W-90NS - GL5 or MT-90 (75W-90 - GL4). MTL is too light. It's a 75W-80. I have used one but not the other, so I can't give you a comparison.

Thanks David. I was jumping between the forum and Redline website and probably got myself confused. Too many numbers. I have been using the 75w90ns.

Steve,

I've been using MT-90, simply because I'm afraid to use a GL-5 lube. I'm about to try Amsoil synthetic 75W-90 GL-4. Mind you, I don't expect to feel much of a difference. In the document below, Pennzoil synthetic 75W-90 GL-4 comes out on top but I haven't been able to find it in a quantity less than 5 gallons.

Transaxle_oil - GL-4 vs GL-5

Are you having any problems with the 75W90NS? I notice mine is a little dirty underneath on the case, but find that it shifts very nice and smooth and the oil always looks very clean between changes.

No issues. I have changed it regularly. I don't have anything to compare the shifting to so I was hoping someone might have real world experience with the different versions of gear lube. Having read David's posted attachment I'm leaning towards trying the MT-90 GL-4.
