My expansion tank burst. I welded it up and put it back in the car. then I topped it up with rad fluid, put the cap back on and fired it up. The tempeature rose to 220 and the front rad was cold? I think I have some trapped air in the system or I need to prime the water pump. could someone please tell me how to prime the water pump and how to get air out of the system. This is a 1971 pantera. thanks your help is much appreciated. Alex

Alex,

Top off the tank and bleed any air at the radiator. Run the engine a few minutes and repeat the above (two or three times is usually enough). Make sure that the overflow tank is half full. Be careful when removing the cap.

This method always works on my '71. Some owners have various other methods that they prefer, like jacking up the rear of the car. This can help, but it can also trap air at the rear of the cyl heads.
