It runs inside the right hand rocker, what year is your car? On the L cars you can access it via the removal of the rocker seat belt plate, not sure on very early cars.
A 1972 will check it out tomorrow, I want to replace standard cable with1/0 welding cable. Did this on my 73 corvette, turned over big block when hot like it was cold. A lot less resistance.
Thanks
ESTBAND; JOULES is correct. One positive battery cable does run down the rocker cavity (the one going to the starter relay). You should have two black cables coming off the + battery terminal, and both go through a grommet protecting a hole that leads under the dash. One cable snakes its way to the amp meter, the other cable goes down into the rocker cavity and comes out an opening and up to the starter relay. Again, as JOULES states, one can access it by removing the 4 bolts of the recoil side of the seat belt. One word of caution - the rear wiring loom connecting everything to the engine, rear lights, fuel tank, etc. also goes through the rocker. Just use caution pulling the + cable out so that you don't pull the rear wiring loom out due to it being tangled in the rocker.
I assume the wiring loom is not cable tied to the battery cable and can I attach a pull rope to the cable to pull the new one back thru. Any better way to pull old cable out, from the front or the back and again to push the new cable in.

just cut it if required as going in and out of the rocker. It is easy to fiddle a new one in when seatbelt stuff is out.. ..I did that..
Estband, you mentioned hot start problems. Is this the case? If so, before you go through the trouble of replacing the cable, have you tried the additional ground approach? Panteras have a reputation for not starting easily when hot and an additional starter ground might solve your problem. It's well documented in these forums. Do a search and I'm sure youll find the info you need.
Another "fix" is the install of a Gear Reduction starter.
Not too expensive, and a typically easy change.
Here's an old thread on it.
Just be sure to run a separate wire to the solenoid, or it will "run-on".

Right on. Run a 4 gauge braided cable under one of the starter nuts and to a nut under a motor mount bolt. Problem solved.
