...Shouldn't hurt. Put Wood or Rubber Between to protect  The Surface from Galling. An Amateur ALWAYS Leaves Their MARK! A PRO...Leaves NO Sign, They were ever There!! Be sure the Stands are centered and secure, so they can't Slip Off.  Actually, What I do is Stack-Up Large Lumber Blocks under the Uprights, Evenly. It's More Safe from Failing. MJ

For muffler work I use jack stands on the chassis and a jack under the upright to allow me to move the suspension through the full range (shock removal usually required). It's a PITA but allows you to ensure there is no exhaust interference during suspension movement.
