Runs better on Hi test

webbers1972 Pantera, Restored. How do I put pic on here?

I have a 72 pantera. My notor is a 30 over 351C. I have trw forged dished pistons and Open chamber heads on. I put Closed Chambered Heads on for more hp. Now I need Hi test, Because it runs way better with it. Why? I use Sunoco 93 plus. My cam is 588lift, Dur, 310. carb a 780 Vac. WHen I stop she wants tp conk out. Then I rev it and black smoke come out a little, But runs go when I take off. Any suggestionsd on the Carb?

Kind of hard to understand what you are trying to say.

You might have a stuck fuel bowl float. Or your fuel bowl level setting is too high. Or a blown power valve.

Check the floats first. On side of the fuel bowl there is a flathead brass screw. Open that, the fuel should be just at or a little the screw hole (1/32). If too high you can adjust with the float adjustment screw on the top of the fuel bowl.

why a 780 sounds a little big .. but ok is the carb new ? what size jets, power valves ?

Have you tried adjusting idle screws, floats, and accelerator pump ???
