My later GT5 came with them from factory, that said I do not know if that was a factory innovation or the factory followed aftermarket.

I can see a visible heat haze when the fans are on so they are allowing air to escape, whether that air would escape anyway is another question! Maybe they are a function of what radiator/fan setup you have, I have a Fluidyne layed down radiator and sucker fans.

When traveling at speed my fiberglass hood bows upward so there is definitely a high pressure zone there which the vents don't fully dissipate at over 80 mph.
