The wheels are gorgeous. I like the way the 335 tire fits on the 11.5" width wheel, the sidewall is nice and square.
Would it be safe to assume you had no problems doing business with American Republic?
Thanks George. They are great looking wheels. Dave Rittenhouse was good to deal with. The only thing was that it took a while. They had to find the correct program to make these. I would rather wait and get what I really want than settle for something that is close. He sent me one wheel for a test fit before the rears were welded. I believe there are a couple of pictures that I posted in your other thread of how they fit on the car with the back spacing I went with, the thread where you were looking for opinions on which wheel you should purchase for your car and back spacing.

Take a look at the picture below very closely...what do you see changed? Both wheels are made by Coddington...the wheel on the left is what I ordered...when I got the "FIRST" set, they were made with the center on the right(rotated pentagon), I refused delivery because that's not the Campy correct design....they made a complete new set.
The centers on the right is one way to change the design enough to say its different. That is the design that some other vendors get.

After looking at photos of cars for years I noticed that some of the Campy clones looked different - more like opened up 5 spoke wheels, but I could not figure out why. This is why.
And I know this post is really old, but for the record, I am a patent attorney. To tell you anything I would need to patent number. This one would have to start with a D - for a design patent. All patents expire eventually... a design patent has a shorter, 14 year term than a utility patent which lasts 20 years from the date you file it (though it is not enforceable if and until it issues - which can take years.)

Glad they are making the wheel design I got from Coddington (Pantera East design). It took me three or four months to get mine done correctly and they made them with the wrong center the first time (as I mentioned) so they had to redo the entire set! Now you have a much larger range of hoop/rim sizes which I wish had been available when I got mine made....I would have done with 9" in the front and 11" in the rear. Who knows maybe someday I'll change out to the larger hoop.
I did a quick search for any design patents awarded to Marino Perna and found nothing. I checked for anything assigned to a company with Pantera in the name as well. Coddington has a few design patents on other wheels - not these.
Given that the design was essentially an upscaled replica of a wheel made in the late 60s/early 70s it is highly unlikely that it could be patented by Marino (at least not validly) - and any patents by Campagnolo would have long since expired.
Short answer, if there was anything stopping Coddington from making Marino's design for others it was likely a contractual arrangement of some sort - or Coddington just trying to be fair.

You're right it was a contractual agreement with Coddington and Pantera East. From what I understood, the Pantera East wheels were done to their specs and design (copies of the OEM versions)....Coddington told me I had to get P.E. approval to allow them to make my wheels and that was doable as long as Pantera East did not offer the same dimensions. I even called Pantera East to ask them to make them in the size I wanted and they refused!!! I thought that was odd because all they had to do is give the green light to Coddington and they could have had a sale from me. I got the feeling that Pantera East may have had inventory of sizes that they wanted to sell and I was looking for something different.

Regarding... the soft lip option... I would have to create 2 new cnc programs,
as the soft lip barrel ID is larger.
If they want to do a soft lip option let them know that the windows would be larger and that my programmer charges 500 per custom program. If more than one person wants the soft lip option, they can split the cost of the program.
The soft lip version would differ slightly .... I would make the windows as close as I can to proportional factory and the knuckle bump would be on the top window like factory.
I'll send you a photo of the Boyd Campi wheel. The wheel I would create would be a little different of course. More factory looking.
Yes but not on the Boyd wheel with the soft lip. The Boyd version is a domed cap with a o-ring holding it on. The one I would do for you would have to be modified to suit the oe cap
That does remind me this wheel style does not come with center caps. They never did due to the fact that Pantera East and others had there own caps.
