Need some help here guys......

When I rebuilt the motor, I changed to a MSD distributor and Ignition. Hooking up the tach, it doesn't work. I have been told that I amy need an adapter since I have original factory gauges and they are known not to work with the standard MSD hook up..

Can anyone shead some light on this for me.

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

Had the same problem. MSD makes two different tach adapters. an 8910 and an 8920.
There is speculation which is one is correct. I believe that different distributors may require one or the other.
Anyway...I went with the 8910, for my Malorry Unilite Distributor. All works well. Go to the MSD website for a complete overview.

If you have an installation guide, it should be no problem, if not, this is how to proceed.
If you have a msd 6 or 7 series, than take the leads from the adapter, and connect the black wire to a good vehicle ground,
Push the female faston terminal on the white wire into the msd tach output on the side of the msd ignition.
connect the red wire on a good positive wire that is switched by your ignition key.
connect the violet cable direct to the tach trigger wire,(in my case this is the pink wire) don't connect this wire to anything else.
Your tach has to work correctly now.

Lots of succes, greetings paul.
[Here are a few links that might shed some light for you. http://www.martelbros.com/msd/support/84.htm http://www.martelbros.com/msd/support/85.htm http://www.martelbros.com/msd/support/86.htm http://www.martelbros.com/msd/support/87.htm http://www.martelbros.com/msd/support/88.htm

If you have a magnetic trigger distributor, you probably need MSD 8920.
If you have points or a Unilite type distributor, probably an 8910.

The original Pantera tach in 71-74 models appears to be a voltage triggered type - NOT a current triggered type.

Hope that helps.
