If they are the black crinkle paint kind, they usually need to get the paint stripped off of them in order to refinish them.
(that's a gallon of aircraft paint stripper, rubber gloves, some steel wool and "wet" sandpaper, at least one can of black crinkle paint and at least 3 hours of your time. Everyone's time is worth something Mark. At $80 and leaving that to someone else, he's ahead of the game on a pair of valve covers costing $160 new.
)
That means paint stripper rather than glass beading since that will take the "mill polish" off of the highlights.
The nature of the casting does not lend itself easily to polishing them either.
I just want you to make sure that they aren't cracked or broken somewhere. You would be surprised at how many are cracked on the mounting flanges because they weren't bolted back up right.
Just verify they are ok. If it's easier for use to do with a picture, that's ok, but not necessary if you look at them and tell me they are ok and no cracks (or chunks) missing out of the mounting flanges or filler holes.
They (it) will most likely get stripped down and refinished by me to match anyway so unless they were mint, that doesn't really matter.
Tell me where to send these NY Bucks to? Got a Paypal account?
I have to do this now while I have the money. I'm going to a cowbell auction on Wednesday and I always loose control and buy everything they have and come home broke.
All the utes here are into dat stuff now.
Don't tell Rocky. He'll be jealous.
Hey? You know why Columbus thought he had discovered a shortcut to India? He stopped into a "Candy Store" on Amsterdam Ave in Manhattan.
OK. Here's the joke, see many of the candy stores here seem to be owned by people from India. Get it yet?
