What is this exhaust coating?

In regards to the picture in the second post of the attached thread, I would like to know what the coating is. My mufflers appear to have the same finish and I would like to spruce them up a little bit. Would someone please recommend a coating that I can apply to the mufflers that matches the same color?

Your best bet Kerry is to take them off and have them professionally coated. Olypmic in Escondido can do it. Ask for Kari she is one of the owners and she will take care of you.

Hi Shaun,

The mufflers appear powder coated, but I do not really want to down the car. I don't get to drive #5606 that much, so I was looking for a quick acceptable fix.

Turn around for a decent shop should not be more than two weeks.

They can turn them around in less then a week.
I have tried other self applied exhaust coatings in the past and they never last or look that great. Wait for a week like last with bad weather and you wont miss any time driving your cat.

If you thermal cycle the spray on material (heat up/cool down/heat up/cool down) then it will turn out much better. Ceramic is the way to go though.

These headers appear to be aluminized.

I used some brake cleaner to clean up my aluminzed mufflers and they cleaned up beautifully.

However, that stuff is really strong on the skin even with protection.

I hope to grow a new set of replacement fingerprints in the next few weeks or so.
