I haven't checked yet but I need to repair a coolant hose and would like to know where I should drain the coolant and how much to expect.I suspect there may be a drain cock under the radiator but thought I'd check the forum 1st. If I just remove the short hose going to the block, will I need to drain the system? Thanks, Randy #2472

IF, big IF, you had a wise prior owner, your block may have a couple of drain petcocks (love that word) installed near the rear on each side of the block - using bosses usually filled with plugs.

Take a look, and then figure out how to direct the flow into a container other than your garage floor.

And realize that draining one side does not drain the other side.

Do NOT ask how I know these things. Frowner
Randy,

When I filled my completely empty stock cooling system with water/antifreeze 50/50 mix, it took 27 litres (6 gallons) But your system will not be completely empty, so you will probably need about 2 gallons of antifreeze.
I dont like to drain the system at the radiator because it will fill the front valance with coolant. The water evaporates, but the antifreeze does not. It just crystallises and makes a mess. I like to loosen one of the hoses under the car. You dont have to take it off.
