am replacing my stock 351c with a 427 stroker. the mallory 84 style distributor needed an msd box. contacted summit racing and they suggested the mallory hyfire 6a which is similar to an msd for my new distributor. eight wires are coming off of the hyfire 6a unit and the diagram explaining how to hook it up is simple and straight foward except for the wire that needs to go to the tach. not sure which wire that is on the car. can someone tell me which wire it is or does this wire even exist? this will save me from having to trace out a bunch of wiring.
thanks,

Every electrical diagram you will ever need is at www.panteraplace.com

Go to - Technical - electrical diagrams - then pick your area.

They were put together by SOBill Taylor and are hosted by Mike Dailey on his website.

Bookmark panteraplace - you will use it over and over.

This diagram is for early cars, but the late cars still use the same blue/black wire.

Keep in mind the signal generated by the new system may not be compatible with the Pantera tach. You may need an adapter. Generally it is the MSD 8920

The tachometer wire normally goes to the negative side of the coil as depicted in the above diagram. AS LArry says check the Hyfire 6a doesn't require a tach adapter to work with the stock tach as the MSD boxes do require one.

SOBill recently discussed a work around to purchasing a tach adapter on the e-mail list, I'll have to search it out.

The Mallory 6A has a wire for the tachometer. It may or may not be necessary to hook it up there and is actually a better place for the signal than the coil. The stock set up uses the negative side of the coil for the tachometer pick up. The Mallory Unilite distributor seems to work fine with the stock tachometer and does not require a spectial adapter.

I just installed all Autometer gauges and the tachometer signal had to come from the box and not the coil to make the tachometer work correctly.
