351C heads

Just got my heads back from the machine shop.
( "simple?" valve job) I did not realize that
Cleveland engines were so obsolete. Next job goes to one of the specialists - hot rod shop or Pantera shop.
The intake manifold (Edekbrock Performer) has a passage across the middle that appears to be exhaust. The new gasket has no hole for this passage. Is it necessary? I am assuming that it has something to do with the original exhaust heat for the choke. The last guy to work on it chewed a hole in the gasket for this passage. Should I do the same?
I saw a question about availability of the Edelbrock manifold a while back. The mail order hot rod shops have them. I use Barnett in Atlanta and JEG's in Ohio.
Thanks
Jim Hendrickson
