Changing the ZF Transmission fluid

My standard procedure for newly acquired old vehicles is to change the fluids, and after reading about corroded synchros, etc on here I decided to get going on that. My Pantera Tech Info manual gave me false hope that I’d find a nice fill plug on top of the ZF unit but it seems that was long gone by 74 . . . only real snag was getting at the fill plug / overfill alert hole on the side. If it was a bolt head that would have been easy, but it seems the Germans love their recessed hex plugs (at...Read More...

Yaris EPS installation

I started the adaptation of the Yaris servomotor and it looks pretty good, even if I still have a lot of work to do. So I bought a set of Yaris RHD, as advised by PanteraDoug and a steering column of Ford Capri: We can clearly see that the Pantera column is a shortened Capri column I first quickly made a temporary support to position the unmodified servomotor and check the space requirement. I only needed to cut a very small piece of about 1/4'' at the back of the support. I then cut the...Read More...

EFI versus Carby

I have today a MSD Atomic EFI and a MSD Distributor in place. This runs very well together. With my new highly tuned stroker engine (614hp) a Holley 750cfm 4150hp is foreseen. Now I think about applying the Atomic EFI but with a fuel pump upgrade. This should support engines up to 625hp. So all good. However I realised now that my camshaft is over the suitable limit of max 250 at .050“ duration with 253/261. The MSD tech support said not a good idea to go higher than 250. The setup is not...Read More...

A few years ago, I had someone that claimed they knew, but didn't know ZF transmissions work on mine to fix a hum. After I reinstalled it a tried to back out of my garage but went forward instead. I think you know what happened. Ever since that issue was corrected, I've had a small annoying leak at one of the side plates, I don't believe they used new gaskets when putting the transmission back together for the second time. My question is, can you take one of those side plates off to replace...Read More...

Oil Pressure sending unit

tomkuester
My Weber intake manifold casting is slightly wider than the heads and does not allow me to attach the oil pressure sending unit without an extension. I don't like the appearance of this situation and so far have not found a smaller diameter sending unit that works on the 351C. Do any of you have a source for a smaller sending unit?Read More...

Coolant pipes installation pics

I purchased Pantera (5972) that was totally dissambled and painted. Now I'm trying to assemble the car but having difficulty since I didn't take it appart. Currently I'm trying to install the coolant tubes/hoses. I'm a visual person so I'm looking for some restoration pics that show the coolant pipe installs ... Exhaust Chirp from Right Side Ansa Muffler

I saw the same post from 2005(!!) but unfortunately it turned into a medical discussion for sore backs (which I can relate to!) without any resolution! I'm looking at a Pantera that I may buy that has the chirp at idle and above rpms. If you put your foot over the outboard tailpipe on the right muffler - sound goes away. I assume something has opened up to create this chirp? Anyone else have this problem before on the Ansa muffler?? Thanks! I hope to be a Pantera owner soon (perhaps next...Read More...

Larger diameter wheels. Upgrading wheels and tires. Resizing wheels and tires. Modernizing wheels and tires. Campy clones, etc. Featured

This is my first post here as I just aquired my father's 1972 Pre-L (#2725) after his death. Now on to my question. I've basically given up on 15" tires and have decided to move on to Campi Clones as the car has maintained it's "stock" appearance and I would like to continue that look. Question: Which tire-wheel combo will keep that 4" clearance that I love so much?Read More...

Interior engine cover

panteradoug
I was asked to show my engine cover pictures. These are covered 3/4" plywood. They replace both the interior hidden steel cover and the exterior vinyl covered bubble. They sit flat on the bulkhead and are held in place by about 8 sheet metal screws. The material is speaker cloth and the passenger seat sits all the way back against the fire wall. Most importantly they are sound deadening, are their own firewall and largely concealed by the seat backs. There certainly could be other shapes to...Read More...

TVR’s Owned by Forum Members (Past or Present)

rocky
There have been a number of calls for pictures of the TVR’s that the forum members own (or have owned in the past). On this board, up to this point, all of TVR owners / aficionados communicate with each other via private messages - it’s like a secret underground society. Maybe we could all come out of the closet, and post the pictures of the ones we’ve got! I will believe it as well known that Martin Lilley of TVR was the first one to come up with the brilliant idea of using naked women...Read More...

Rocky's Big Batch of Pantera Parts FS....

rocky
Got a bunch of stuff for sale - cleaning out the garage... Buyer pays shipping. I try and use USPS Flat Rate when possible, this should give you an idea of SOME of the shipping costs. Not too excited about trying to ship overseas. Take a look at the list. If you think my price is too high, make me an offer with some rationale ("Hey, I can buy that blah blah from Hall for $xxx...") and we can talk. Thanks for looking. The link to the pictures no longer works (this is an old post), so let me...Read More...

Because I’m in the middle of putting an engine together for my car I’m working right now on my engine breather stuff.. now there are things I like and things I do not like and it’s not easy to find stuff I like… So in the end, it comes down to modifying or building things… I see quite some Panteras who have just those little filters stuck on the two holes of the covers… And to all the people here who have that - please - that is not helping… you pull the dipstick out of those Pantera’s with...Read More...

Thermostat at 180F or 160F ?

I was reading in my new Ford Cleveland 351 Engine booklet by George Raid a comment on the side about the thermostat to be used which is not in line with my thinking. Would like to here your (practical) experience here: The comment he made was: "I suggest you stay away from a 160-degree F thermostat". He made that comment with no further explanation, unfortunately. My perception and the knowledge of my engine builder states of course use a 160F thermostat. They apply that temperature as well...Read More...
