In a situation where old grease is possibly gumming up the part its "supposed" to be lubricating, a judicious "spritz" of WD40 will often help loosen things up until you can disassemble, clean & relube. Be careful with plastic, try a small dab first on a non-critical area to make sure it doesn't soften the plastic.

Upon teardown, relube the part with synthetic grease, such as that sold by Mobil 1, so far I have not had that product gum up on me and it takes high temps better too.
