A/C evaporator valve screen

Got the heater box out and thought I'd check the screen at the evaporator valve.

I removed the valve and I see no screen. Where does it belong? Am I looking in the right spot? Is it within the evaporator valve itself? Looks like there's something in there I can remove with a hex key but if there's a screen in there it's rather small.
