I managed to do it without taking the dash out and pulling the heater box apart, I cheated and pulled the rubber drain pipe off the back of the heater box and looked up the tube with a torch, I could clearly see the evaporator so I gently pushed a piece of wire into the fins to make an entrance and then stuck the capillary tube into the core approx 1". I was careful to position the tube at the top of the pipe so that the water will still drain out of the car and not onto the carpet. I then cut a slit in the rubber drain pipe and clamped it back on. I will probably put a dab of silicone around where the capillary comes out of the top of the rubber pipe just to make sure. I think this should work.
