The foam you are talking about is around the vent openings, correct? It is not special. Just a low density open cell foam.

What type of evaporator are you installing? Stock or the larger unit with O ring fittings for 134?

As far as condenser, what year car do you have? The later 74 styles were good but have compression fittings not O ring. The aluminum O ring aftermarket are better that the earlier stock version and seal better than the 74. As far as cooing, the biggest problem is the trunk insert no allowing the air to flow well through the condenser when the car is moving.

There are options available depending upon what you want as far as cabin cooling and budget.

What hoses are you talking about? One of the AC hoses runs all the way to the back of the car and the other one run to the compressor---Short hoses?

Are you talk about the heater hoses? If yes, Gates green stripe works well but any good 5/8 heater hose is fine. They are not in the UV ever so hold up. Make sure your heater water valve is working well or hot water will circulate into the core and degrade the AC as the engine heats up.

IMPORTANT! Seal the car well. Make sure the engine cover has good weather strips all the way around, seal all of the incoming holes through the fire wall and add some light foam into the E-break lever cavity to seal the slot in the floor. Look for every hole and plug it, seal it, foam it. It will make a huge difference in cabin comfort.
