AC expansion valve replacement

I'm still working on getting my AC working for the trip down to Monterey. My current task is to replace the expansion valve. The coil on the valve is attached to a clip that is attached to the evaporator pipe.

My question is how does that clip come off....and then go back on? And how is the capillary coil attached to the clip. It looks like it might be soldered but I'm not sure.
