AC Hose Replacement

About half way into this and getting ugly especially the hose connections under the dash. There's a tar like substance surrounding them with no room to turn wrenches. Now asking do I really need to replace them all? Yes, I am switching from the old R12 to R134. York type original compressor.

My plan was to just changes the hoses charge the compressor and that's it. I know it won't be a very good AC, but that's OK. Is there anything else I have to change? The hoses don't feel bad, except for their 40 year age.
