I have only found the crimp to crimp like you posted. The simplest would be to use a male to female threaded insert but so far I have found none and only in 134a. No R-12.

There is a crimp to female thread.

I've never charged a system without the compressor running. I'm sure it can be done but is beyond my pay scale at the moment.
