alternator fail

anyone want to tell me how bad this is?
My alternator belt was squealing a couple weeks ago. We put on a new belt and checked the alternator for free rotation and it was smooth and without sound or gritty when turned by hand.
Today, after getting up to temp, I went for a drive, all was quiet until the engine was reved to about 5000rpm and the alt started sounding like a bad bearing.
I drove back to the garage, about a mile, when the belt broke leaving me with battery only and in hindsight no waterpump.
A little water came out when I parked it.
Question how screwed am I running the half mile back without the waterpump. I did not notice the temp, like an idiot.
