Reply to "Any body have luck with these deck lid shocks? $20ea"

I used a set I got from Hall. They promptly tore out the deck hinges. It probably wasn't really thier fault. The hinge area in the decklid is a very weak area often cracking underneath.
I wound up brazing a few pounds of brass in there and did a good job or warping the decklid. I used brass so I wouldn't have to use as much heat as for welding steel. It could have been worse I suppose. I could hqve had to bolt the hinges through the decklid. I would think that the "ghini wing" would cause the rapid demise of the decklid/hinge mount as well.
I'll stay with my silly '73 L wing. I can always say that it's there to feed the Webers. They are a hungry bunch ya know.
Of course, maybe the decklids didn't fit too well to begin with. I can't remember.
