Aussie heads and cam combo

I have been reading about all the combos for aussie heads and cams. Larry Stock runs the svo cam with aussie heads that sounds like a good combo. Then Dan Jones suggests using a single pattern cam for better results. I am running open chambered heads with port plates and (I assume) a hp2 cam from hall.I noticed a difference in low end with the plates. I have to pull the motor for various reasons, so i thought i would freshen it up. I have aussie heads and would like to have them put on with a good street cam that will run to 5500-6000 with lots of torque and not run out of breath at 5000 rpm. I also like a throaty idle (not wild or smooth). I like comp cams but I'm unsure after hearing about problems with aftermarket cams.
