Auto Meter Guages

Over the weekend I upgraded my center guages (temp, fuel, oil pressure and changed amp meter to volt meter) to Auto Meter Ulta lite guages. The fuel guage now reads full even though the tank is only 1/4 full. I read that a probable cause of a "full" reading is that the stock sending unit is sending too high a voltage to the guage and that installing a resistor will correct, or partially correct the problem. Has any experienced a similar issue? Any Thoughts on corrective action? I'd prefer not to replace the sender unless that is my only option. Thanks, Lee
