Reply to "Backfire Through Exhaust"

It sounds like an exhaust leak. If you have a stock exhaust, be aware that stock 'bunch-of-banannas' headers routinely crack where the tubes from the heads are welded to the stampings that form the connecting section. GTS-type full-tube headers normally do not crack. The leak may also be a blown-out gasket where the exhausts bolt to the heads, or at the collestors near the rear shocks. To check for leaks, start the engine and quickly reach down around the exhausts- the headers do not instantly become boiling-hot so what you'll feel will be a puff of warm exhaust out whereever it's leaking. This may take a couple of tries to cover the whole exhaust system. Once you find the leak, the fix will be obvious.
