Many more important than weight reduction is dropping whatever battery down under the front trunk floor ala the post-'80s Panteras. No need for a battery box- a crossmember between the front lower frame rails braces the suspension and supports the battery. With a little pulling, stock cables fit down under the floor and it allows carrying a little more 'vital debris' on road trips! Of course, icing on the cake is dropping a lightweight battery... I use a 625-amp MR-2 battery from Costco: 22 lbs. Starts our hot-rod engine first turn every time.
