I can't say what will work for earlier model Panteras. Mine is a 1989 and came with a 351 Windsor. DeTomaso obtained these truck motors to put into Panteras in the late 1980s after their supply of Australian 351 Clevelands ran out. Therefore, it makes sense that they would have installed the same compressor Ford was putting in their pickups at the time.

All I'm saying is that, for late model cars like mine, the stock replacement is a standard Ford pickup truck compressor which can be obtained pretty much anywhere. There is no need to go to a Maserati dealer, or to pay a premium at a specialty vendor. Anyone who doesn't believe me is welcome to come and see the unit installed and happily working in my car.
