Reply to "BIGGER cam"

I thinks Al's suggestion is a good one. However,if your '73 has the stock engine, it's 8:1 compression, with dished pistons, open chamber 4V heads, and all the cam events retarded 4 degrees. Just a cam could help alittle, but if you really want to smile, I would suggest you jump on e-bay and buy yourself a set of the closed chamber 2V Aussie heads, then follow Al's instructions.

The closed chambers will give you 9:1 (wish will live well with pump gas) with dished pistons and allow you to reap more of the benefits of more aggressive cam. This is a great set up for a street Pantera and will pull harder lower and probably better everywhere up to 5500 rpm. It will be hard to get the smile off your face. If you have flat top pistons then Al's combination with the open chamber 2V heads will do about the same, but you may want to add an MSD ignition to aid the flame propogation characteristics the open chamber heads, and depending upon how you drive, consider a 600 or 650 cfm vacuum secondary Holley.
