Reply to "Billet axles anyone?"

Josh,

I don't have billet axles installed on mine "yet". Someday I shall. The defect in the Pantera rear wheel bearings is that the oem axles were a slip fit, rather than an interference fit, the bearings selected required an interference fit to operate properly. Supposedly the aftermarket axles remedy that problem, and resolve the wheel bearing failure issue without having to resort to modification of the uprights, etc. This is as per Mr. DeRyke.

Billet parts are stronger than forged parts. The billet axles I've seen appear to be beefy, choice quality stuff. I realize the axles increase the price of a rear upright rebuild by about $750 for the pair, but I would recommend the added expense just to resolve the bearing issue, and if you plan to take your car on the track, or even abuse it on the street, they are good insurance against a rear axle failure that could result in a lot of body damage to your Pantera, or leave you stranded somewhere.
