Any chance it could have been a shill who knew what the reserve was and took it to $100 less than the reserve so that the other real bidders would take it over the top. Psychology being that since the real bidders were already so heavily emotionally invested in the bidding for the car that the extra couple of thousand wouldn't stop them.

At the end, however, it looks like they came to their senses and stopped bidding.
