brake switch

I have a 72, and the brake ights are staying on all the time. I have pulled the brake switch, sprayed some carb cleaner in it, and it works fine, when I test it off the car. Once I re-installed the switch, it turns the brake lights on after I deprees the brake pedal, and then they lights stay on. Is this a bad switch? I read somewhere that a volkswagen brake switch is the replacement. Is this true?
