Breather filter removal

Stupid question, but damn frustrating nonetheless. I can't get this breather filter removed to top off the engine with some oil (in the link below). I loosened the clamp and tried twisting, pulling etc as hard as I can bug no budge. I am surprised it didn't break off while trying to twist it. Life just can't be that difficult. I may just need to cut it off and get another?
