Reply to "broken dip stick tube"

The tube is specific to Panteras, because it bends towards the rear of the block. A stock one for, say a Mustang, just comes straight up. That 'flare' you see at the block is just the top of about a six-eight inch tube which may prove to be trouble getting out. A fellow PCNC member added a custom unit he bought from Lokar made of flexible, braided stainless steel/aluminum machined ends, with SS dip stick rod this year. He had some trouble getting it all dialed in, had to have Lokar redo the tube that drops into the pan, but once it was dialed in, it works great, bends to any shape desired, and looks way cool. Think the total cost was $65, both pieces. I will try to get the name of the Lokar guy he worked with, and a contact # posted to this BB later in the day. You could just look up Lokar and try on your own, also. Save all your old pieces, so you can match the rod length that projects into the oil pan with whatever you buy for a replacement. Your use of a stock or aftermarket pan does not matter, but stock pans with low oil levels will starve the oil pump pickup in heavy cornering, toasting your bearings; you do not want to recalibrate oil level markings incorrectly when you fix this problem. The critical length is INSIDE the pan.
