Does anybody know how much you can flatten the hump in the bulkhead between the seats?

You know, this is really where the vendors prove their worth. Kirk's conversion is fully thought out, available in various stages of completion, and only requires common sense to install.

To do it yourself will be a trial and error process. To start with, Kirk's kit moves the alternator. Do you want to fabricate your brackets to do this, and then figure out the fan belt length?

Then you have to figure out how much clearance you have with the new alternator location. Perhaps you could affix some sort of clay to the inside of the stock cover, bolt it in place, and then start whittling the steel cover to match the clay guidelines? Or perhaps glue styrofoam to the cover for the same idea?

Then you will have to figure out how to modify the fiberglass portion of the hump. Ever done fiberglass work? Doesn't look too hard, but who knows what evil lurks?

Finally, how about the upholstery?

Bottom line, a do-it-yourself hump reduction seems like quite the project for most of us.

I know if I go this route, I will surely make use of at least some of what Kirk offers, rather than invest the time and sanity to figure it out for myself.
