Can anyone identify this part for me?

I’m trying to sort the wiring on very worn out ‘71 Pantera (#2034). There seems to be a large amount of aftermarket wiring and plugs (all behind the dash on the passenger side) which I assume went to a dealer installed radio …which is no longer with the car. This box, presumed to be a voltage regulator for the radio, was screwed into the front trunk wall behind the battery w/a single wire running out to a loom not standard on the car. I just want to make sure I’m not removing something I don’t understand. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
