Quick explanation (my neighbour is the military police criminal investigation unit): As Canada's military presence in Afganistan is not 'a war'. Every death is considered a 'murder' and must be investigated as such, so CIS officers are in Afganistan and must do investigations and interviews to document as if it were such. When our fallen soldiers get home (Military Aircraft lands at CFB Trenton) they must then go to the coroner (in Toronto) for an autopsy, before bodies can be released to families. That is why we have the 'funeral processions' A fine recognition to those who have given the greatest sacrifice. (Thanks to Myke H... even if he drives a GTO)
