In the good ol' days it was possible to purchase the choke assembly alone, you didn't have to purchase an entire carburetor.

Pony Carburetors is a business that specializes in refurbishing carburetors for classic Mustangs, they may have the part. Just tell them its a 1972 Mustang, not a Pantera.

Another option is to install a Holley choke, hook it to a 12 volt source, and rock n roll.

Pony Carbs closed. The owner died.

In my experience the universal Holley choke thermostat opens too fast. You need a specific choke thermostat or a ramping device to adjust the rate of opening.

I've found that the 84 Mustang GT choke thermostat works well for most intents and purposes. You can get it in Standard and a couple of other brands.

They're about $28.
