You chose well

An open spacer is a tuning device for an open plenum intake. The 4 hole spacers can help an open plenum intake too, but are a necessity for someone not wanting to change the tuning of a 2 plane intake. It sounds as though you were only looking for a heat insulator, and for that purpose your choice was spot on.
